My Journey to School
A chilly breeze brushed past my hair. I inhaled a huge gulp of fresh air as I stepped out of my house. The bright morning sun
shone rays of gold on my skin and fleecy white clouds were drifting in an irregular manner. I lugged my burdensome school
bag and strolled to the lift lobby. I caught view of the birds flying freely in the
baby blue sky. At that defining moment, the sound of the elevator disrupted my
thinking.
As I walked out of the elevator I sighed as I began my onerous journey to school.
I noted many vivid sights and sounds on my way. The vibrant yellow flowers
shone in the morning sunlight. A smell of freshly cut, damp grass drifted to my
nostrils and above me palm trees stood tall. People were busily doing their
morning jogging routine and a few elderly women were doing the graceful ‘Tai
chi’.
I neared the busy MRT station and it was swarming with adults dressed in crisp
business attire, many school going children chatting blithely, and elderly holding
their position behind the ‘yellow line’ waiting patiently. Many with the blank TV
screen look on their faces as if it would be another ordinary and uneventful day.
A female robotic voice announced the train’s arrival and everyone rushed hur-
riedly and scrambled to get seats. I got down at ‘Kembangan’ station and made
my way to the campus. I could smell the freshly baked bread as I passed a bakery
and commuters were rushing to board the buses. The school was not far off. As I
was close to the campus I could hear the noise of school children playing and the traffic near the school gate. Exuberance bubbled in
me and feeling exulted, I ran quickly into the grand campus and was greeted by my friends.
